A Leica Ambassador since 2016, for my photography I use exclusively Leica equipment because it gives me the supreme image quality I am after together with a unique, essential user experience. A Formatt-Hitech Ambassador since 2016 and Formatt-Hitech Featured Artist since 2018, I choose the superior quality of Firecrest Ultra filters to do justice to my Leica lenses, which deserve the best filters on the market.

For me, equipment choice has always been dictated by what I have to shoot and by the look I have in mind. Together with my Leica cameras, both film and digital, in the past I used 35mm and Medium Format equipment by Nikon, Phase One, Leaf, Hasselblad, Mamiya, Linhof, Silvestri, Schneider, Rodenstock, Pentax, Fuji, Sony, Sigma and Panasonic.

I believe that a knowledge of equipment as vast as possible is of fundamental importance to help my Workshop participants make the most of their potential and to advise them on what the best solutions for their photography are. I also believe that a comprehensive knowledge of the best equipment out there is fundamental to sensibly choose the equipment that best suits one’s work. For me, it is Leica.

For my work, filters are almost as important as cameras and lenses. They allow me to control light, shutter speed and reflections, thus getting as close as possible to the images I have in mind directly in camera and reducing post-processing to a minimum. Mounting low quality filters on my Leica lenses would nullify their superior optical capabilities: therefore, it is fundamental for me to use only the best filters on the market.

I am a Formatt-Hitech Ambassador since 2016, and since 2018 I am a Formatt-Hitech Featured Artist: I use Formatt-Hitech Firecrest Ultra optical glass filters exclusively because of their exceptional neutrality, sharpness and resistance to scratching. In my filter bag you’ll find:

Formatt-Hitech Firecrest Ultra Grad ND filters: 0.6, 0.9, 1.2 and 1.5 density (2, 3, 4 and 5 stops), Soft-Edge

Formatt-Hitech Firecrest Ultra ND filters: 3, 6, 10 and 13 stops

Formatt-Hitech Firecrest Ultra Reverse Grad ND filters: 0.9 density (3 stops), Soft-Edge

Last but not least, perfect camera support is fundamental for me to create the images I have in mind preventing camera movement and micro-vibrations from ruining my work. To support my cameras in the field I use Really Right Stuff tripods, Arca Swiss and Really Right Stuff ballheads and Really Right Stuff L-Brackets. To make sure my cameras don’t fall off my neck, I use Harry Benz’s straps. To move my equipment around, I prefer MindShift, ONA and Tenba bags. When sunlight is not enough, I use Elinchrom and Leica flashes, Chimera softboxes and various light modifiers.
